Police Nab One Over Alleged Murder Of Benue Professor, Brother


*Details Emerge Of How They Died

‎As members of the Father Adasu University community and family members continue to mourn the murder of Professor Gabriel Nyityo, the Benue State Police Command has arrested one Abdullahi Usman of Awe Local Government Area (LGA) of Nasarawa State in connection with the assassination of the university don and his younger brother.

‎A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Benue State Command, Deputy Superintendent (DSP) Udeme Edet, in Makurdi on Thursday, disclosed that the Command’s ‘D’ Division received a distress call along Adaka axis, and on arrival, police personnel saw two dead bodies.

‎According the the statement, “one Prof. Gabriel Saawua Nyityo, ‘m’, 58 years, and his younger brother, one lorngee John Nyityo ‘m’ 19 years, were killed by unknown gunmen.”

‎The spokesperson revealed that investigation was still in progress to arrest the remaining suspects who are at large.

‎Prof. Nyityo, until the assassination, was a lecturer in the Department of History at Father Adasu University, Makurdi.

The incident occurred on Wednesday morning in his residence along Naka road, Makurdi.

‎As at the time of filing this report, the motive behind the assassinations of the don and his brother was unclear even as the former was attacked and killed when asleep.

‎Meanwhile, members of the community, among other mourners, have called on security operatives to arrest the assassins and bring them to book.
