Former Commissioner and prominent political figure, Abdullahi Danbaba Dambuwa, has officially emerged as the senatorial candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC) for Sokoto South Senatorial District following the party’s affirmation exercise ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Dambuwu was affirmed alongside Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko for Sokoto North Senatorial District and former Chief Financial Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Umar Ajiya, for Sokoto East Senatorial District.
The affirmation exercise, conducted across the state on Monday, was supervised by a 16-man committee from the APC national headquarters and monitored by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies and other stakeholders.
His emergence is being viewed by political observers as a significant development within the APC in Sokoto South, where Dambuwa is widely regarded as an experienced grassroots politician with strong political influence across the district.
Speaking shortly after the affirmation exercise, Dambuwa expressed appreciation to party leaders, delegates and supporters for the confidence reposed in him, pledging to justify the mandate through effective representation and commitment to the development of the district.
He assured supporters that if elected in 2027, he would work with the State Government and the federal administration of President Bola Tinubu to address critical challenges affecting communities in the district, particularly in the areas of infrastructure, education, youth empowerment and poverty reduction.
Dambuwa also stressed the need for unity within the APC, urging members and supporters to remain committed to the ideals of the party and continue supporting ongoing development efforts in the state.
The event was attended by dignitaries such as Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, Deputy Governor Idris Muhammad Gobir, Speaker of the Sokoto State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon.Tukur Bala Bodinga, members of the National and State Assemblies, former Deputy Governor Chiso Dattijo Abdullahi, and former Zamfara State Deputy Governor Hassan Masha, among other dignitaries.
Speaking during the exercise, State Attorney General and Chairman of the Local Organising Committee for Sokoto North Senatorial District, Nasir Muhammad Binji, said the process was conducted in line with the Constitution, Electoral Act 2026 and APC guidelines.
The leader of the APC national delegation, Hodi Ukashatu, commended the peaceful conduct of the exercise across the state.
In his remarks after the affirmation, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko thanked the people of Sokoto State for their continued support for the APC and urged political leaders to prioritise service delivery and inclusive governance.
