Plateau Killings: IPOB Lawyer Rallies US, Others To Assist Nigerian Christians As Terrorists Kill Over 40 On Palm Sunday

*Protest Breaks Out In Jos Over Latest Massacre

“The #PalmSunday massacre of Christians in #JosNigeria (by Islamists) underscores the urgency of creating a ‘sovereign safe zone’ for Christians in Nigeria.

“This is the only permanent & sensible solution to the unbridled carnage/terror that has convulsed Nigeria to no end & martyred thousands of Christians.”

Legal consultant to the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Barrister Aloy Ejimakor, disclosed these while reacting to the reported massacre in Jos, Plateau State, of over 40 residents on Palm Sunday (yesterday).

The Middle Belt state, convulsed for years in ethno-religious killings, is estimated to be over 95% Christian-populated.

Yesterday evening, gunmen killed over 40 residents of Angwa Rukuba in Jos North Local Government Area (LGA) of the State.

The armed attackers, whose identity many residents could not describe with certainty, entered the area through Gariyawaye Junction at about 8 pm, arriving on motorcycles to wreak havoc on residents, according to a report by Foundation of Investigative Journalists (FIJ).

A resident, who asked not to be named, reportedly told FIJ that the armed men announced their entry into Angwa Rukuba by attacking some residents with machetes, leading people to initially believe it was a cult-related attack.

However, as the assault progressed, sporadic gunfire followed. According to the source, some residents initially thought the ear-splitting sounds were fireworks, but this assumption changed as the intensity increased and the noise persisted.

“It later became so intense that many people in shops, including market women around Angwa, were hit by bullets. In the process, the gunmen killed Pharmacist Chinedu, the owner of a shop here in Angwa,” the resident said.

According to the resident, the attack followed an earlier incident in which some young men in the Angwa Rukuba area attacked Fulani residents in the community.

In response, the gunmen, whom some residents suspect to be of Fulani origin, retaliated.

“Some people attacked residents of the Angwa Rukuba area some time ago. In response, youths in the area attacked some Fulani people, believing that the initial aggressors were Fulani,” he said.

“Now, people have attacked our area, although I cannot say if they are Fulani. I only know that they are armed.”

After the attack, residents initially counted 14 deaths, but as of Monday morning (today), aside from those injured and now receiving treatment in the hospital, FIJ reported that it gathered that the death toll had risen to as many as 40.

In response to the incident, the Plateau State Government imposed a 48-hour curfew on Jos North LGA, effective from midnight on March 29 to April 1, 2026.

State Commissioner for Information, Joyce Ramnap, announced that the measure was taken in collaboration with security agencies to restore order following the attack.

State Police Command spokesperson, Alfred Alabo, could not be reached today for comments on whether any arrests had been made, as a call to his line went unanswered, and messages sent to him via WhatsApp and SMS had not been responded to,FIJ added.

Protests Rock Jos Over Palm Sunday Attack

Apparently not letting the massacre be swept under the carpet, hundreds of angry residents in the State took to the streets today, defying the curfew, to protest the deadly attack.

The demonstration began at the scene of the massacre in Angwa Rukuba and was captured in a live TikTok stream.

According to the live stream the protest began as early as 9am.

The protesters, visibly agitated, were seen chanting and demanding urgent government action, insisting that the curfew alone cannot address the recurring violence.

Reacting, Ejimakor said the incident underscored the need for what he termed a permanent solution to ongoing attacks against Christians in the country.

He argued that such a measure would address what he described as persistent violence and insecurity.

Ejimakor further stated that the proposal aligns with positions previously advocated by pro-Biafran groups, alleging that the Federal Government instead opted for the detention of Kanu.

“It’s on record that this is the solution the #Biafrans had long suggested but instead of considering it, the Government of Nigeria resorted to renditioning & imprisoning Mazi Nnamdi Kanu for life,” he said.

He also called on international leaders to intervene in the matter.

“It has now become more urgent & compelling for comity of nations & world leaders… to prevail on the Nigerian government to free Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and initiate prompt steps towards achieving a permanent solution,” he said.
