Serene Osubi community of Okpe Local Government Area (LGA) has been thrown into mourning after a man, identified simply as Iseleto, stabbed his 23-year-old son, identified as Miracle, to death.
Sources familiar with the incident, which shocked the residents, revealed that Iseleto allegedly committed the act after bellyaching that his son rented separate apartments for his (Iseleto’s) wife and for the suspect, following a series of marital upheavals involving his father and wife.
Sources said the son took the action to let peace reign.
However, it appears that the peace-making gesture did not go down well with Miracle’s father.
It was learnt that, consequently, the suspect deceived and lured his son into a bush in an unclear pretext and proceeded to pounce on him and allegedly stab the younger man several times with a dagger hidden somewhere nearby, leaving him for dead.
Iseleto was said to have immediately fled the community to an unknown destination.
But, it was gathered, soaked in his own blood, which was dripping from several parts of his body, Miracle managed to struggle through the bush to the roadside and raised the alarm, attracting the attention of passersby who rushed him to a hospital.
However, sources said, before he died in hospital, he spilled the beans on how his father tricked him into the bush and stabbed him.
According to another source, the fleeing suspect called some of his relatives to inform them of the fate of his son, allegedly disclosing to them his intentions to eliminate his wife and step-daughter, who was, at a time, living with him and his wife.
He reportedly told the relatives that he was very displeased with his wife for quitting his home and taking up occupancy of the apartment rented by Miracle.
He was said to have angrily viewed the wife’s act as tantamount to a divorce without his input.
Residents of the community said the suspect is known to often binge on more than his fair share of alcohol and was alleged to be a chronic debtor who routinely poured his life’s frustrations on the wife by beating her up, especially when high on illicit gin.
There were also unconfirmed reports of the man seeking sexual intercourse with his wife in presence of their children in the one-room apartment they occupy and when she refused, beat her black and blue.
According to residents familiar with the family’s issues, the randy suspect once attempted to have carnal knowledge of his step-daughter and because she refused him, he drove her away from the apartment.
Contacted, Delta State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Superintendent Bright Edafe confirmed the report in a reply via a WhatsApp post to People&Politics.
Edafe stated: “Confirm. Suspect is at large.”
