Sokoto, UNICEF Seek Deeper Ties In Health Sector

Sokoto State Government said it remains committed to improving the state’s health sector.

Deputy Governor, Alhaji Idris Mohamed Gobir, disclosed this while receiving the new UNICEF Country Representative, Mrs Wafaa Sa’eed, who was on familiarization visit to the North-West State.

Alhaji Gobir said it was based on this commitment that the sector has been enjoying the highest budgetary allocation since assumption of office of the present administration.

The Deputy Governor said the aim was to ensure that people access healthcare services with ease.

He expressed satisfaction with the various supports being received by the State Government from UNICEF for improvement of the health sector.

Alhaji Gobir assured that the State Government would continue to render whatever support was required by UNICEF for the smooth conduct of its activities in the State.

Earlier, Mrs Sa’eed said UNICEF’s activities were geared toward the well-being of people, particularly children, globally.

Mrs Sa’eed disclosed that UNICEF would assist 18,000 vulnerable children in the state’s Health Insurance Programme.

She added that the global body has provided 200 tablet handsets and the same number of power banks as well as three laptops for a social register in the State.

The UNICEF Country Representative accompanied by a new Deputy Country Representative in charge of operations, Mr Charles Opikoli Lolika, expressed appreciation over the cooperation the body was receiving from the State Government and hoped the tempo would be sustained.
