2027: Stop Endorsing Tinubu For Second Term,Or… -PDP Warns Members

By our reporter

Irked by the errant conduct of some party members, National Working Committee (NWC) of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has issued a stern warning to them to stop publicly endorsing President Bola Tinubu for a second term.

Tinubu, who became president in 2023, belongs to the rival All Progressives Congress (APC) and is strongly believed to be interested in re-election in 2027.

The PDP NWC said the action of members publicly endorsing him for a second term amounts to anti-party activities and a clear violation of the party’s Constitution.

It warned of severe punishment for such action.

PDP National Publicity Secretary (NPS), Hon. Debo Ologunagba, sounded the warning today, August 8, in a statement he signed and made available to journalists.

The NWC expressed serious concern over the persistent public media outbursts and declarations of support for APC by some prominent party members.

“Such actions violate Section 10 (6) of the PDP Constitution as amended in 2017, which prohibits members from aligning with other political parties or groups in a manner that undermines the PDP or any of its elected governments,” it stated.

Acknowledging that these members’ activities have been causing division, disaffection, and serious loss of members, a development, it noted, that could harm the PDP’s electoral chances, if left untamed, the party leadership cited Section 59 (1) of the PDP Constitution, revealing that it has taken corrective steps by formally reprimanding those involved.

But, it warned them and others to steer clear of trouble by staying within party statute bounds or face stiffer sanctions.

Ahead of the party’s National Convention he billed for Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, on November 15-16 this year, PDP rallied its members to remain loyal, focused, and committed to the party’s success.

Oyo State is controlled by the PDP under Governor Seyi Makinde.
