Filled with the milk of human kindness, the governing body of church group, NKST Yina women fellowship, in Benue State has donated relief materials to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) from Yelwata town to soften the blows of hardship on them.
Yelwata was the scene of the slaughter of over 200 persons –many of them IDPs fleeing bloodshed in other communities –by killer herdsmen about a fortnight ago. Reports said entire families were wiped out by the murderers in the process.
The international and local outcry from the bloodfest prompted an official visit by President Bola Tinubu to Makurdi, the state capital, where he visited hospitalized victims and, among others, ordered security chiefs to hunt down the perpetrators of the killings immediately.
Making the donation on behalf of the fellowship at the ultra modern International Market, Makurdi, women leader of the church, Atese Rebecca Anshiom, who was accompanied by other officials, noted that they were moved to present their widow’s mite because of the visible plight of the IDPs.
Anshiom, who read from the Bible book of Matthew 11:18, told the IDPs that only God would give them rest, urging them to be consoled that God would not forsake them.
She encouraged them to understand that at the appropriate time, God would intervene and they would return to their ancestral homes.
She assured that the women fellowship would continue to pray for them and expressed the belief that God will not disappoint them.
Responding, Dr. Donald Komgbenda, who received the relief materials on behalf of the Benue State Emergency Management Agency (BSEMA), appreciated the women fellowship for the donation and assured that the materials would be distributed to the IDPs judiciously.
Items donated by the fellowship included bags of clothes, footwear, rice, carton of soap, Maggi sauce, detergent as well as groundnut and palm oil.
