Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the dates for the governorship elections in Ekiti and Osun states.

INEC fixed Saturday, July 20, 2026 for the election in Ekiti State, while Saturday, August 8, 2026, was announced as the date for the poll in Osun State.

INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, made this known during the swearing-in of six newly-appointed Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) in Abuja on Friday, May 30.

The RECs were recently confirmed by the National Assembly, after their presentation to the legislature by President Bola Tinubu.

Professor Yakubu added that the electoral umpire was finalising arrangements for bye-elections to fill vacant seats in the National and State Houses of Assembly.

The Ekiti and Osun States’ governorship elections are two major ones the Nigerian electorate are looking forward to.

While Ekiti State has Governor Biodun Oyebanji of the federally ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) seeking for a second term on the saddle, Osun has another second-term seeking Governor, Ademola Adeleke, who is of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
