FIRS Chair Adedeji Not Gunning For Oyo Guber Now, Says Aide

By Stephen Gbadamosi, Ibadan

Chairman of Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Zacchaeus Adedeji, is not growing grey hairs over becoming governor of Oyo State.

He is focused on his present assignment, his aide, Dare Adekanmbi, has said.

Speaking on a popular radio programme in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital, Adekanmbi explained that: “When Zacch Adedeji was in government (under the late Abiola Ajimobi), he never saw himself as being in government of a political party.

“He thought of being in government for the people of Oyo State; if anybody went to see him, he threw his doors open.

“You go to him with grim face, you come out smiling. So, he has that already etched in the minds of the people of Oyo State.

“When the people now saw the enormity of the assignment the Federal Government put on his shoulders, they realised that he is President Tinubu’s boy and could be the next governorship candidate.

“But that was why he did that video in January saying ‘look, I was Commissioner in 2011, 14 years ago. I have finished my assignment in Oyo state for now; let me face what the president has committed into my hands for now. In 2027, I’m not going to run’.”

Adekanmbi further explained that when the time is ripe, the financial expert would surely take a shot at the state’s governorship, adding that any time the man decided to run, nobody would stay in his way.

Adekanmbi’s words: “But that does not mean that he is not going to run for governorship of Oyo State someday. He is just 47; he has age on his side.

“All those attributes of humanity, age, agility and so on that we have been talking about, he combines them in adequate measures. Zacch is somebody that, even at the national level, you see Ministers, Heads of agencies coming to the FIRS to consult him for one thing or the other.

“Of being the best option for Ogbomoso in 2027, if he decides to run, there is nobody that can stop him, even in APC or PDP, all other parties will call him to associate with him to make sure he becomes governor.”
