Immediate past governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, claimed on Wednesday, May 21, that indeed a coalition between former Vice President (VP) Atiku Abubakar and presidential candidate of Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 poll, Peter Obi, has been formed.

He said the coalition will send President Bola Tinubu packing in 2027 general elections and have him return to his Lagos base.

Sources disclosed that the former VP and Obi will run on the platform of African Democratic Congress (ADC), adding that the decision was reached after a vital meeting on Tuesday night (May 20) in Abuja, the Nigerian capital.

Speaking to a gathering at Arewa Techfest in Katsina, North-West Nigeria, on Wednesday (May 21), the former Kaduna governor confirmed the meeting which he revealed took place at 8pm, even as a source said it lasted till the early hours of the morning.

According to him, when President Tinubu is sent back to Lagos, his (Tinubu’s) appointee and Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, whom he (El-Rufai) rated high on performance, would be retained post-2027.

He said: “Yesterday at 8pm, there was a very important meeting of the coalition we’re putting together to ensure that President Tinubu goes back to Lagos; though we will still keep Bosun Tijani, we will still keep the Minister because he is doing good work.”
