Three female students from Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University, Makurdi (JOSTUM) who were abducted by gunmen, have regained their freedom, the Benue State Police Command said.
A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Command, Sewuese Catherine Anene, recalled that the female students were abducted on February 26, 2025 at the university premises by unknown gunmen.
The statement added that subsequently, a team of police officers waa deployed for investigation during which it was gathered that the three students were being held hostage by their kidnappers.
Following continuous trail of the kidnappers, the statement said, the victims were released and were currently receiving medical attention at Benue State University Teaching Hospital, Makurdi,the capital of the North-Central state.
The Commissioner of Police (CP), Benue State Command, Mr. Steve H. Yabanet, commended all officers involved in the operation, particularly the IGP Intelligence Response Team from Abuja and other security agencies in the State, for their commitment to the investigation.
He said the police would continue to put in the relevant commitment to end criminality in the state.
