Tor Tiv Thumbs Up Establishment Of Benue Public Service Institute

Tor Tiv, Orcivirigh Professor James Ortese Ayatse, has commended Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia for establishing the state’s Public Service Institute to train civil and public servants.

The envisaged training is to enable them effectively execute the administration’s seven-point strategic development plan.

Speaking in his palace in Gboko while receiving the Director General (DG) of the institute, Professor Terkura Tarnande and his management team, the Tor Tiiv counseled them to make the institute a strong Information Communications Technology (ICT) centre as well as equip those being trained with requisite tools, to realize the desired output from them.

Professor Ayatse, while emphasizing maximum digitalization, charged the management team to also, on their part, show commitment by engaging themselves in practical aspects of the training through Zoom, adding that capacity building was cardinal as it has the tendency to change the mindset and image of public servants to the government and the general masses.

He urged all citizens to key into the governor’s wonderful innovation, assuring the management team of the full support of the Benue State Council of Traditional Rulers.

The Tor Tiv expressed readiness to avail them the opportunity to give proper orientation and do a workshop for royal fathers, when the need arises.

Professor Tarnande, earlier in his remarks, intimated the Begha u Tiv (Tiv monarch) on the desire of the Gov. Alia administration to restructure the civil service and transform technocrats to become more effective and efficient, hence the Public Service Institute.

The DG noted that since its inauguration, the institute has embarked on building workers’ capacity through training of civil servants beginning with Government House staff, newly appointed Permanent Secretaries, Local Government elected Chairmen as well as conducted civil service promotion examinations.

Professor Tarnande disclosed that it became imperative to undergo the training, especially on e-governance, as the world was technologically advanced and so, workers needed to meet global standards, disclosing that he had forwarded a proposal to the state government and is waiting approval to organize workshops and orientation programmes for traditional rulers due to their pivotal role of contributing to run the affairs of government.
