Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barrister Nyesom Wike, has not resigned his appointment, contrary to some media reports.

On 1 April, reports surfaced online that the Minister, a close ally of President Bola Tinubu, had quit office.

Tinubu reportedly handed his subordinates a deadline of 31 March to quit, if they were interested in running for any political office in 2027.

So far, at least two Ministers -Foreign Affairs Minister,Yusuf Tuggar, and his Transportation colleague, Saidu Alkali -have heeded the directive and exited their offices to try their luck in their states.

One of the reports claimed that Wike had relocated to his native Rivers State to vie for a Senate seat.

The reports stirred several reactions nationwide with the comments sections of many news sites replete with mixed reactions, some in obvious joy.

However, People&Politics has verified from a very senior inner circle member of the Minister’s entourage that Wike has not resigned.

Responding to the paper’s enquiry, the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said:”Don’t fall for that April fool thing. The Honorable Minister hasn’t resigned.”

The official added that the Minister is “a strong, loyal, committed and forward-looking member of President Tinubu’s deep circle and, aside executing Mr President’s mandate of moving FCT to the next developmental level, is focused on ensuring the President’s sure second term in office from 2027.”

According to the official, there are “some persons who want to quickly see the back of this high-performing Honorable Minister from Mr President’s cabinet and we know they’re the ones behind this wicked, malicious, unpatriotic, baseless rumour of the Minister’s resignation.

“Good for them that the Honorable Minister has to disappoint them. He’s not resigning now, he won’t resign anytime soon.”
