Eye On 2027: Zamfara Commissioner Resigns


*After 30 Years In Existence, State Experiences First Test Flight, Gov Lawal Jubilant

Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology in Zamfara State, Malam Wadatau Madewaki, yesterday formally resigned from office.

He quit after the State Executive Council (SEC) meeting, yesterday too, which was chaired by Governor Dauda Lawal, where the Governor directed all SEC members and other appointees eyeing political offices in 2027 general elections to first resign from office.

A statement issued by Senior Special Assistant (Media), Office of Secretary to the State Government, Comrade Suleman Ahmad Tudu, confirmed that Gov. Lawal has accepted the resignation of the Commissioner accordingly.

Disclosing the development, Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Malam Abubakar Mohammad Nakwada, also stated that Gov. Lawal has appointed the Commissioner of Budget and Planning, Abdulmalik Abubakar Gajam, to concurrently oversee the Education Ministry as Overseeing Commissioner with immediate effect.

Governor Lawal expressed confidence in Gajam’s ability to ensure continuity and stability in the state’s education sector.

He also thanked the former Commissioner for his services to the state and wished him well in his future endeavours.

Meanwhile, the State Government has expressed excitement over the historic test run of the maiden flight at Gusau International Airport in the state capital.

This was contained in a statement issued by Comrade Suleiman Bala Idris, spokesperson to Gov. Lawal, and made available to journalists in Gusau.

The statement disclosed that the first test flight landed at the Gusau International Airport at exactly 4:30pm on Sunday.

Idris added that the aircraft, a Bombardier Challenger 605, was operated by the Federal Government.

The statement read, in part: “Today (Sunday) will remain a historic day in the history of Zamfara State as Governor Lawal witnessed the landing of the maiden flight at the Gusau International Airport.

“The aircraft with registration 5N-FGZ performed a one-off test to assess the airport’s capability for VIP movements scheduled next week.

“The test flight is in accordance with the provisions of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Regulations (Nig. CARs) Part 12.1.4.1(c).

“Before the test flight, the state government requested permission from the NCAA, and the Authority granted a one-off ‘No Technical Objection’ (NTO) for the Aircraft to land in Gusau.

“The flight operation was conducted under Visual Flight Rules (VFR), which was strictly from sunrise to sunset.

“The historic test flight has significantly boosted Governor Lawal’s administration’s reputation, especially since Zamfara has lacked an airport since its creation over 30 years ago.”
