*6 Feb For Governorship, State Assembly Polls

There is a fresh timetable for the 2027 General Elections.

Presidential and National Assembly elections will now hold on 16 January, 2027 -a shift backwards by one month and four days from the earlier date of 20 February, 2027.

These were disclosed by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Thursday as it gave an update on preparations for the polls.

According to the commission, elections for Governorship positions and State Houses of Assembly will now take place on 6 February, 2027.

Previously, INEC had slated the Presidential and National Assembly elections for 20 February, 2027, while Governorship and State Assembly polls were to hold on 6 March, 2027.

However, following the repeal of the Electoral Act, 2022, and the signing into law of the new Electoral Act, 2026, INEC has now rescheduled the polls.
