BREAKING! FCT Council Polls: AA Abuja Municipal Chairmanship Candidate Withdraws For APC Flagbearer

Action Alliance (AA) Chairmanship candidate for Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Godson Nemieboka, has withdrawn from Saturday’s poll.

AMAC is significant as the only Area Council in the country that houses Nigeria’s seat of power –Aso Villa –as well as the three arms of government and other national iconic structures.

Nemieboka pulled out in favour of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate and incumbent Council Chairman, Chris Zakka.

A press statement made available today to People&Politics, and titled: ‘Hon. Godson Nemieboka Withdraws from AMAC Chairmanship Race, Endorses APC Candidate’, which contains these, reads in full: “As the Federal Capital Territory Area Council Chairmanship Election enters its decisive phase, leadership demands clarity of purpose and strategic foresight.

“Following extensive consultations with my running mate, Hon. Philip Babawa, our campaign leadership, critical stakeholders, and respected voices across the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), I have taken the deliberate decision to step down from the Chairmanship race under the platform of the Action Alliance (AA), effective immediately — 48 hours before the election.

“This decision is neither impulsive nor pressured. It is strategic.

“Our consultations made one reality clear: the overriding objective at this critical moment is to consolidate political strength in a manner that guarantees stability, continuity, and accelerated development for AMAC.

“Fragmentation at this stage would not serve the long-term interests of our people.

“Accordingly, we have resolved to align with the incumbent Chairmanship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon. Christopher Zakka, and to commit our structure, supporters, and political capital toward securing his victory at the polls on Saturday.

“This is not a retreat. It is a repositioning. Leadership is measured not only by the willingness to contest, but by the wisdom to consolidate when necessary. Our movement was built on service, discipline, and development — and those principles remain unchanged.

“I call on all members of our campaign structure, the Action Alliance family, our grassroots mobilizers, and supporters across AMAC to remain peaceful, organized, and resolute as we deliver victory for the APC candidate.

“I deeply appreciate the commitment, sacrifice, and loyalty demonstrated throughout this journey. The relationships built and the political capital mobilized will continue to shape the future of leadership in AMAC.

“Hon. Godson Nemieboka
