Meanwhile, Executive Secretary (ES), Benue State Emergency Management Agency (BSEM), Sir James Iorpuu has assured that the State government was not only supporting the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) with food and non-food items, but was also making coordinated plans for safe return of the IDPs.

The Permanent/Executive Secretary disclosed this during the distribution of food and non-food items to IDPs in the various Local Government Areas (LGAs) and their host communities.

“I want you to know that you are not forgotten. Government remains committed to supporting you not only with relief interventions but also with long-term recovery initiatives, including livelihood support, farming initiatives, and coordinated plans for safe return to your ancestral homes.”

The BSEMA boss noted that the distribution of the relief materials was another “significant step in our collective commitment to alleviating the plight of our brothers and sisters who have been displaced by insecurity and other emergencies across Benue State.”

“This intervention is not merely about distributing relief materials. It is about restoring hope, reaffirming dignity, and demonstrating that government remains responsive to the needs of its people, especially the most vulnerable among us,” he added.

Iorpuu assured that Gov. Alia has continued to prioritise humanitarian response, safe return, and sustainable resettlement of displaced persons.

According to him, the items distributed to the IDPs include essential food commodities to address immediate nutritional needs, as well as non-food items aimed at improving living conditions in the camps and the host communities.

“We are mindful that while relief materials do not replace lost homes and livelihoods, they provide critical support and temporary stability as we work toward durable solutions,” he emphasized.

While appreciating humanitarian partners, security agencies, community leaders, camp officials, and dedicated staff of BSEMA who worked tirelessly to make the exercise possible, the ES noted their collaboration has continued to strengthen the body’s response framework.

He sued for maintenance of order, patience, and mutual respect, assuring that they would together continue to build resilience and restore stability across the communities.
