To ease the burden on society’s vulnerable persons, Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Department (FEMD) and a non-governmental organization (NGO), NEAR Foundation, as part of Ramadan outreach, are to distribute 11 kilograms worth of food packages to 300 households rendered helpless by disasters in the Territory.
Director, NEAR Foundation, Mr Abdul Hakem Salaudeen, made the disclosure during a courtesy visit to FEMD.
Ramadan, the month-long Muslim period of fast and holiness, is expected to kick off sometime this month.
According to a press statement issued on Thursday by FEMD’s Head of Public Affairs, Nkechi Isa, the NGO boss added that the gesture to spark broad smiles on people’s faces would also reach over 4000 other vulnerable groups in FCT during the outreach.
He stressed that the objective of the outreach is to show empathy to the helpless and ensure that they have meals during the forthcoming Ramadan.
“The tradition of Near Foundation is to visit our stakeholders to see how we can partner more in terms of programmes and shared values,” he said, in relation to the visit to FEMD.
Responding, Acting Director General (DG), FEMD, Engr. Abdulrahman Mohammed, assured on his agency’s commitment to continued collaboration with NEAR Foundation.
Mohammed urged public spirited Nigerians to emulate NEAR Foundation by assisting the less privileged.
