Kano Online Media Chapel Honours Gov Yusuf, Commissioner Waiya

Kano State Online Media Chapel (KOMC) has honoured the State Governor, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf,with an award in recognition of the cordial relationship he maintains with journalists and media outlets in the state.

Presenting the award shortly after a two-day retreat for online media journalists at Dutse, the chapel chairman, Comrade Abubakar Abdulkadir Dangambo, stated that the gesture was in recognition of Gov. Yusuf’s outstanding support for the development of journalism in the state and nation generally.

He noted that Gov. Yusuf showed strong commitment in matters pertaining to welfare of journalists through capacity-building trainings.

This, he noted, was clearly manifest in his “characteristic manner” of goodwill and affection for various section of the media in the state.

Speaking further, Comrade Dangambo recalled how the state emerged the first to establish an first online media chapel in the country with the State government under Gov. Yusuf allocating office space for smooth running of the chapel’s affairs.

Also honoured alongside the Governor was the Commissioner of Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, who the chapel leader appreciated for the vital role he played in the establishment of the body as well as guidance and sustained support.

Responding on behalf of the Governor, Comrade Waiya thanked the chapel for the honour, assuring KOMC that Gov. Yusuf has acknowledged the gesture.

The Commissioner called for the sustainance of the robust relationship between government and the chapel.

He restated the administration’s resolve to shore up funding in this year’s budget for the development of journalism.

His words: “There will be more media engagements this year as adequate provisions have been made in this regard.”

The Commissioner advised the various personnel working in the industry to align themselves with appropriate media professional bodies such as Nigeria Guild of Editors (NGE), Newspaper Proprietors Association of Nigeria (NPAN) and others to enhance career growth and development.
