An operation by the Ghana Cyber Security Authority (CSA) and the Police has led to the arrest of 48 suspected cybercrime fraudsters at Dawhenya in Greater Accra, the country’s capital.

Those arrested are believed to be Nigerian nationals, according to the Minister of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Sam Nartey George, who said this was based on preliminary interrogation.

A source said a motive of the suspects was to “hit it big this Christmas, travel to Nigeria and live large in their country –unfortunately at the expense of their innocent victims.”

The arrest operation was carried out on Tuesday night [December 23, 2025].

It was a National Security-coordinated project based on intelligence in the Dawhenya area.

George said the suspects are made up of 46 males and two females.

The suspects, he said, were linked to a range of cyber-related criminal activities, including romance scams, online investment fraud, impersonation schemes, and illicit online gold trading.

Items retrieved during the operation included 54 laptops, 39 mobile phones, one Starlink internet device, and eight MTN TurboNet routers.
