The bid to cleanse Nigeria’s Augean stable of filth perpetrated by some uniformed personnel has claimed the life of a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in Niger State, in a massive scandal of epic proportions.

DSP Isah Abdullahi attached to MOPOL 12 in Minna, Niger State, allegedly shot himself to death with a pistol in the armoury he headed, following official detection of his role in arming terrorists and other criminal elements in the state with AK-47 rifles and ammunition.

It is unclear how long Abdullahi had been involved in the racket or if any of his superiors was equally involved in the deals.

Apparently for being a good boy to terrorists — who records show have killed hundreds of thousands of Nigerians over time –, DSP Abdullahi reportedly lived large, far above his legitimate income, allegedly owning chains of properties and a fleet of exotic cars.

A source told People&Politics that the office of new Defence Minister, General Christopher Musa, played a role in unravelling all these as the Minister is bent on ridding the country of terrorism and terrorist abetters/sympathisers, in line with President Bola Tinubu’s mandate to him.

The stage for the unearthing of the deceased DSP’s illegal activities started during a routine audit of MOPOL 12’s armoury by detectives from Abuja.

In the process, the detectives uncovered 13 missing AK-47 rifles and over 2,000 rounds of ammunition.

Shocked by the findings, the detectives reportedly launched into deeper investigation, leading to the arrest of one Inspector Moses, whose beat is at Niger State Government House.

Moses was alleged to have confessed that it was DSP Abdullahi who supplied him with arms which he (Moses) delivered to terrorists in Erena, Shiroro Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.

People&Politics recalls that Shiroro, about 128 kilometers northwest of Abuja, the nation’s capital, was the scene of the July 2022 massacre of at least 30 Nigerian soldiers in an ambush after terrorists attacked a mine in Shiroro. A local leader had told Reuters that the terrorists also killed seven police officers and eight civilians and abducted several Chinese workers.

It was also in Shiroro that, according to accountability site, africandefenceforummagazine.com, in June 2024, terrorists killed 20 young men, beheading 10 of them, in an attack on a Shiroro village with residents being “forced to hold the severed heads as the terrorists took pictures and shot video.”

Furthermore, Moses was said to have equally fingered his own brother as an informant to the terrorists and go-between in the deals.

Armed with the wealth of information and evidences, the suspects were arrested and brought to Abuja by operatives from the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), Nuhu Ribadu, for more questioning.

With intense investigations, it was learned, there arose need for physical examination/audit of the Minna armoury, thus DSP Abdullahi was taken from Abuja to the armoury.

It was gathered that only Abdullahi could access the armoury’s electronic controls, and once inside, he reportedly grabbed a pistol and shot himself in the head, dying on the spot in a pool of his own blood.

Officers with him were arrested for negligence with an Orderly Room trial in the works for them even as four other police officers linked to the DSP are presently under interrogation.

A statement by the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Superintendent Wasiu Abiodun, which confirmed the incident, explained that DSP Abdullahi shot himself during an investigation into his involvement in the illegal ammunition deals.

“On December 16, 2025, at about 2:30 pm, one DSP Abdullahi Isah, attached to 12 PMF Minna, who was initially arrested on 15th December for being suspected of involvement in illegal dealings of ammunition, was taken to his office for a routine arms audit.

“Unfortunately, while the audit process was ongoing, the said officer shot himself in the head through a pistol he picked up within the office and died on the spot.

“Meanwhile, the policemen who were detailed along for the audit and investigation activities were arrested for negligence in the line of duty, for allowing such a situation to occur. Further investigation is in progress at Paiko Road Police Station, Minna,” Abiodun stated.

Also weighing in on the issue, Niger State Police Commissioner, Adamu Elleman, said: “He (Abdullahi) smartly brought out a pistol and shot himself when empty ammunition boxes were discovered.”

Elleman confirmed that Inspector Moses is being held and investigated in Abuja by the ONSA.

The Abuja team is reportedly working hard to unravel others who may have been involved in the entire scandal.

A crack team of ONSA operatives is presently guarding the armoury while an autopsy to determine the exact cause of Abdullahi’s death will soon be done.
