There is disquiet in Kaduna as civil society groups and organizations have frowned at the arrest and detention of two young indigenes of the North-West state by men believed to be operatives of Operation Yaki of the State Police Command.

The two young men, Louis Epikaizo and E.Y. Godwin, said to hail from Southern Kaduna, were allegedly arrested and detained after being linked with a social media post purportedly portraying the State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, in negative light.

A statement signed by a Christian cleric and Kafanchan-based activist, Rev. Gideon Mutum, and made available to People&Politics, disclosed that the drama started when Epikaizo honoured a police invitation to him, by appearing at the designated station.

According to the statement, “Louis honored the police invitation while Godwin was picked up in Abuja, blindfolded and taken to Kaduna Operation Yaki Police Command in Kabala Costain.”

Giving further details, Rev. Mutum added: ”Two young men from Southern Kaduna, Louis Epikaizo and Godwin EY, have reportedly been arrested and detained by officers of Operation Yaki Police Command, Kabala Costain, Kaduna.

“Their detention is allegedly linked to posts made on their Facebook page, “Southern Kaduna People”, which authorities claimed, were used to insult the Governor of Kaduna State, Senator Uba Sani.

“The sudden arrest has stirred outrage and widespread concern among residents, civil society groups, and online communities who are demanding clarity on the charges.

“According to information reaching us, the police later informed the detainees that the issue was not about insulting the Governor but purportedly about comments directed at Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah.

“However, credible sources reveal that Bishop Kukah categorically denied lodging any complaint or being offended by any publication linked to the young men.

“Despite this denial, the authorities have continued to hold Louis and Godwin in custody, raising questions about the true motive behind their detention.

“There are now indications that the duo may be transferred to the Department of State Services (DSS) tomorrow, a move that has heightened public anxiety.”

The statement called on all relevant agencies, human rights bodies, and well-meaning individuals to urgently intervene and help verify the real situation surrounding the men’s arrest and ongoing detention.

Rev. Mutum insisted that “transparency and due process must be upheld to ensure justice, fairness, and the protection of citizens’ rights.”
