The date 20 November, 2025, has been circled in diaries by many interest groups as one of a potential earth-shaking development in the country.
This is because it is the day that Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court, Abuja, today fixed to deliver judgment in the terrorism charges brought by the Federal Government (FG) against leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.
The judge picked the date following Kanu’s blunt refusal to open his defence just as he had done on several occasions during the court’s sittings.
Seeking to dismiss the matter against him, Kanu had earlier today filed a motion challenging his trial on the ground that terrorism was no longer an offence in contemporary Nigeria law books.
Kanu said that the earlier Terrorism Prevention and Prohibition Act had been repealed, insisting that in that wise, there are no valid charges against him to enable him open any defence.
