Relative calm in southern part of Kaduna State was punctured today (Sunday, September 7) as gunmen, suspected to be terrorists, struck in Kachia Local Government Area (LGA), killing eight persons, injuring 20 and kidnapping several others.
The incident reportedly occurred in the morning in Wake village of the LGA.
These were contained in a statement today by the former Chairman, Middle Belt Forum (MBF), Kaduna State branch, Comrade Isaac Tanko.
According to him, “8 were killed, 20 injured while several persons were kidnapped.”
Lamenting the apparent increasing return of bloodletting in Southern Kaduna, he stated: “It’s disheartening to see the world remain silent, seemingly driven by hypocrisy and political agendas. May God save Southern Kaduna.”
Tanko recalled: “When I was Chairman, MBF, Kaduna State chapter, we made it clear in a widely publicized press statement that granting pardon to bandits or terrorists was fundamentally wrong, crudely bizarre and an insult to their victims, both death and surviving.
“We also said it is a lie, that security has not improved in Southern Kaduna, citing isolated killings and mass kidnap of our people. I believe that the current Exco (of MBF) still stands on that path.”
Comrade Tank further alleged that accurate information is not being allowed to seep out to the world due to what he described as government’s grip on the media,though he did not disclose how.
He stated: “Government is controlling the media as well as some appointees of government from Southern Kaduna. I am not alleging.”
Contacted, spokesman of the State Police Command, DSP Mansir Hassan, was yet to respond as of press time.
