17 New Commissioners Sworn-in In Benue (See Names Inside)

Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Iormem Alia, on Monday swore in 17 newly appointed Commissioners charging them to remain loyal and accountable to the people.

Performing the ceremony at Government House, Makurdi, the state capital, the Governor also urged them to maintain close ties with their communities, urging them also to be transparent in their activities to earn public confidence for the administration.

The new commissioners include Dr Ortese Yanmar, Rev. Dr Fredrick Ikyaan, Michael Oglegba, Tiza Imojime, Alumo Orpin, Ugwu Odoh, Kunde Aondowase, Kwaghgba Amande, Joseph Ter Jir, James Dwem.

Others are Dr Ornguga Yangien, Theresa Odachi Ikwue, Dr Benjamin Ashaver, Dr Adamu Margaret Ijaguwa, Dr Peter Oboh Egbodo, Dennis Iyaighgba and Dr Paul Eje Ogwuche.

Governor Alia informed the Commissioners that they were carefully selected from across the state to strengthen the administration to accomplish its development agenda.

While stressing that the government was in the second half of its first term, the governor urged them to put in more efforts as, according to him, the journey ahead requires greater commitment and dedication.

Governor Alia noted that “the appointees were chosen because of their proven understanding of governance, transparency, and discipline. Much is expected from you.”

Alia, who acknowledged the importance of the local communities, urged the Commissioners to maintain strong links with their communities and to serve as spokespersons on government programmes, just as they are to uphold confidentiality in state matters.

As he reminded them of the oath they had taken to protect the Nigerian Constitution and place public interest above personal considerations, he also emphasised that his administration was people-centred and not driven by political patronage, insisting that his government was focused on policies that have direct bearing on the lives of ordinary citizens.

Governor Alia debunked the allegation that he intended to replace Dr Sam Odeh as deputy governor ahead of 2027, reaffirming his confidence in Odeh who he described as a dependable and tested partner possessing all the qualities required for effective governance.

Responding on behalf of the new Commissioners, Hon. Iyaighgba appreciated the governor for the trust reposed in them and assured that the appointees were prepared to add value to the administration by working with diligence, creativity, and integrity.

He assured also that their collective goal would be to reposition their Ministries and deliver tangible results to definitely improve the lives of Benue people.

The ceremony was attended by political leaders, traditional rulers, heads of parastatals as well as family members of the new Commissioners.
