Onyedika Dazzles As Club Brugge Pulverise 10-man Rangers

Belgian side Club Brugge sealed European Champions League qualification on Wednesday night by battering visiting Scottish giants Glasgow Rangers, popularly known as the Gers, 6-0, with Nigerian midfielder Raphael Onyedika outstanding while playing full 90 minutes.

The result brings a humiliating aggregate of 9-1 when added to Rangers’ 1-3 home loss to Brugge in the first leg.

A piece of solid rock in the centre of the pack,Onyedika, who also plays for Nigeria’s Super Eagles, did not put a foot wrong throughout his time on the pitch, even assisting the second goal and taking two shots during the game.

Bossing the midfield, the 24-year-old Imo State-born Onyedika got his touches on point, made the right passes, and was the perfect cog that linked different parts of the team.

He chalked a 96% pass accuracy on 85 passes and won three of his five duels, laying down yet another fine performance that potentially gives Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle a pleasant headache ahead of Nigeria’s make-or-mar World Cup qualifiers versus Rwanda and Bafana Bafana of South Africa next month.

Who will Chelle pick between Onyedika and old war horse Wilfred Ndidi? is the question on the lips of keen followers of the performances of Nigeria’s foreign legion.

While Onyedika has been shining at his club, Ndidi, who just joined Turkish giants Besiktas from Leicester City, has not played much yet for his current form to be assessed.
