Former Speaker of Benue State House of Assembly, Hyacinth Aondona Dajoh, has debunked the allegation of plotting to impeach the Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, levelled against him by the Assembly as reason for his suspension from his position as elected lawmaker today.

The immediate past Speaker was suspended barely 48 hours after his resignation as Speaker.

Reacting to the reason adduced for his suspension, the ex-Speaker defended himself, declaring that he was not part of the plot to impeach the Governor.

Dajoh said that there was no reason to link him with such allegation.

Speaking in a statement through his media aide, Terver Zamber, the former Speaker described the allegations as false, misleading, and appear designed to tarnish his reputation.

According to the statement, the immediate past Speaker has remained the best-serving Speaker in the history of the Assembly and had always maintained a cordial and constructive relationship with the Governor.

The former Speaker’s spokesman reminded Benue residents that before he resigned, the House under his leadership passed a vote of confidence on the Governor which, he noted, was a mark of reaffirmation of the Assembly’s commitment to supporting the government’s efforts to succeed.

He queried what the penalty was for other alleged co-conspirators to the supposed impeachment plot, wondering why, if there was indeed any such plot, the Assembly did not name the others or take similar action against them.

Dajoh further queried why only him was suspended,if any plot was hatched, as claimed by the Assembly.

The statement read in part: ”It is unfortunate that Hon. Terna Shimawua, representing Kyan state constituency who moved the motion for the suspension of the former Speaker on the grounds of an alleged impeachment attempt, was speaking in the House for the very first time since his election to the tenth Assembly.”

Dajoh, the statement revealed, has accepted the suspension in good faith but emphasized that the three-month punishment was a mere political maneuver orchestrated by non-state actors and executed by elements within the Assembly.

The statement also noted that it was not right to spread falsehood against the former Speaker, who,it noted, resigned for the sake of peace and in the best interest of the state.

Dajoh urged the public to disregard the unfounded claims but continue to support the state’s progress.
