House Of Reps Re-run: El-Rufai Campaigns Openly For ADC In Southern Kaduna

By Achadu Gabriel, Kaduna

Immediate past Governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, has publicly demonstrated his support for the candidate of African Democratic Congress (ADC), Alexander Igoji Adanu, who is running for the House of Representatives (HoR) seat in the re-run poll for Chikun/Kajuru constituency, scheduled for this Saturday, August 16.

He was sighted during a rally today, August 13, in the area showing support for the candidate.

Even against the perception that he is unpopular in some parts of the state, such as Southern parts of the North-West state, because of his administration’s policies, El-Rufai showed no fear, being in the open amidst the crowd with the prospects of being attacked by thugs or other aggrieved groups, real.

He was spotted on the campaign trail in Kujama, Chikun LGA.

In a post on his social media handle, the former Governor expressed gratitude for the reception, adding “Kaduna Update: Earlier on the day at Kujama, Chikun Local Government. Alhamdulillah. Overwhelmed by the warmth and acceptance of the ADC!!”

Adanu will face electoral competition from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Felix Bagudu, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) flagbearer Esther Ashivelli Dawaki, and other contenders.

El-Rufai’s support for the candidate of the opposition party followed that of former Anambra State Governor and 2023 Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, who was recently seen wearing an ADC-branded cap while campaigning for the party’s candidate in the Onitsha North state constituency by-election, Justina Azuka.

Both Obi and El-Rufai are figures in the opposition coalition rallying under the ADC party and bidding to unseat President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

Recall that the former Kaduna State Governor was accused of misappropriation of billions of Naira by the State House of Assembly ad-hoc committee at the end of this tenure in 2023 -a claim he denied.
