In what may come as music to the ears of some fans of Liverpool, Arsenal and other top tier rivals of Manchester City in the English Premier League (EPL), there is strong fear at Etihad that City manager Pep Guardiola’s marriage is heading for divorce.
Etihad insiders greatly fear that should this happen, it may negatively impact their celebrated manager’s psyche and thus, the team’s start to the 2025/26 season.
There has been speculation for some time that the relationship between Guardiola (54) and Cristina Serra (52) is over and that the couple is already separated.
Spanish media reported months ago that the two were no longer living together and that the Manchester City manager’s recent two-year contract extension deeply upset Serra, a businesswoman from Manresa, leading her to decide to end their 30-year marriage.
The couple’s disagreements coincided—whether by chance or not—with Manchester City’s most challenging period since Guardiola took over the team in the summer of 2016.
Now, in England, there are concerns that this second chapter—the divorce—could once again destabilize Pep and his team at the start of the new season.
According to The Sun , there is fear within the Etihad Stadium that the situation could impact the manager’s focus and performance.
Journalists Laura Fa and Lorena Vázquez, who first broke the news of the separation, have emphasized that there is no turning back.
Fa stated: “The divorce signing is imminent. Their romantic relationship has clearly come to an end.”
Vázquez added: “The relationship is no longer friendly—it has become cordial. We’re not saying there’s tension between them, but the breakup has entered a different phase.”
