Business Mogul, Aminu Dantata, Passes On

The last man standing in the illustrious Alhassan Dantata family passed away last Friday in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

A statement released by his Principal Private Secretary, Mustapha Abdullahi Junaid, and his youngest son, Alhaji Muhammadu, confirmed that the death occurred about 3:00 am after a protracted illness which took some months. He was receiving medical attention in UAE before his demise.

Alhaji Aminu Dantata was born on 17 May, 1931 at Sarari quarters in Kano.

He started business as a representative in his father’s company, Alhassan Dantata and Sons.

He led the company following the demise of his father and elder brother, Alhaji Ahmadu Dantata.

He expanded the firm into a number of conglomerates in agro commodities, merchandising, construction and pharmaceuticals under the now famous Dantata Organization and later branched into oil and gas sector with his firm, Express Oil and Gas.

Dantata became Commissioner of Commerce and Trade in the first cabinet of Kano State in 1967 during the administration of Alhaji Audu Bako, first Governor of the state.

He is survived by three wives and 21 children.
