Barring any unforeseen circumstances, the crisis involving suspended Rivers State governor, Sim Fubara, his estranged political godfather and Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, as well as members of the State House of Assembly, was resolved last night by President Bola Tinubu.
The crisis, over control of the soul of the State, led to the President declaring a state of emergency on the oil-rich state on March 18 this year, the subsequent removal of Fubara and all elected persons for six months, and appointment of former Naval chief, retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, as Administrator.
The resolution of the crisis came during a meeting between Tinubu and the aggrieved parties at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The meeting came after an earlier one involving Fubara, Wike and the lawmakers.
The development was confirmed by Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, in a post on his X handle today.
Onanuga said Tinubu has demonstrated he wanted peace for Rivers State.
He wrote: “Rivers’ peace talks in pictures. President Tinubu has demonstrated once again that he wants peace for Rivers State. Just like he brought together the political gladiators to sign a peace deal in December 2023, he repeated the same on Thursday night, three months after he imposed the March 18 state of emergency.
“FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, Governor Siminalayi Fubara, and House Speaker Martins Chike Amaewhule all took part in the peace talks at the Villa.”
The meeting with the President was to intimate him that the crisis had been resolved.
