Eze Anaba Re-elected NGE president, Ozoene, Editor-in-Chief, People&Politics, VP East, Others Too


Mr Eze Anaba has been re-elected president of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) for another term.

Anaba, the Editor of Vanguard , was returned unopposed in an election held today, June 27, during the biennial convention of the NGE held at the International Conference Centre, Enugu.

Also returned unopposed were Mr. Sheddy Ozoene, Editor-in-Chief of People&Politics Newspaper, as Vice President, East; Mr. Kabir Alabi, Editor, Weekend Guardian , Vice President, West; Mr. Charles Kalu, Peoples FM, Abuja, Social/Publicity Secretary; and Mr. Gabriel Akinadewo, Editor, Freedom Online, Assistant General Secretary.

In the election proper, these officials were elected: Mallam Tukur Hamza, Editor-in-Chief, Daily Trust , Vice President, North; Iyobosa Uwugiaren, Editor, Nations Capital, Thisday , beat Mrs Boma Nwuke of Port Harcourt Telegraph by 176 votes to 114 to become the Guild’s Treasurer.

Mr. Ikpong Essien-Udom and Chinedu Egere emerged as members of the NGE Standing Committee from the East, defeating two others, Dom Isute and Lawrence Mpama.

Ms Rose Moses, who polled 225 votes, Dr. Bisi Deji-Folutile, 145 votes, and Mrs. Juliet Bumah, Editor of New Telegraph ,165 votes, emerged as members of the Guild’s Standing Committee (West), while Mallam Ibrahim Umaru and Ms. Paulyn Ugbodaga also become Standing Committee members from the North.

All the newly-elected members were immediately sworn in at the International Conference Centre.
