The Senate has adopted the motion for urgent need for the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports to complete and commence activities at the abandoned National Youth Development Facility, Mgbaukwu, Awka North LGA, Anambra state.

The adoption followed the motion of urgent public importance under 41 and 51 of Senate standing rules sponsored by Senator Uche Ekwunife.

Moving the motion, Ekwunife noted with concern that the construction of National Youth Development Centre Mgbaukwu which commenced in 2005 for the benefits of people of the South-East geopolitical zone has been abandoned for the past 11 years.

She pointed out that the abandoned facility is a well thought out programme of the Federal Government to provide opportunities for training of youths on various skill acquisition programmes.

The Senate had mandated its committee on Sports and Youth Development to investigate the circumstances leading to the abandonment of the facility and such other facilities abandoned anywhere in the country and report back to the senate within four weeks.
