Senate Adopts Ekwunife’s Motion For Completion of Abandoned Youth Facility In Anambra


*Commences Equipping Of Health Centre She Attracted To Neni Community

The Senate has adopted the motion for urgent need for the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports to complete and commence activities at the abandoned National Youth Development Facility, Mgbaukwu, Awka North LGA, Anambra state.

The adoption followed the motion of urgent public importance under 41 and 51 of Senate standing rules sponsored by Senator Uche Ekwunife.

Moving the motion, Ekwunife noted with concern that the construction of National Youth Development Centre Mgbaukwu which commenced in 2005 for the benefits of people of the South-East geopolitical zone has been abandoned for the past 11 years.

She pointed out that the abandoned facility is a well thought out programme of the Federal Government to provide opportunities for training of youths on various skill acquisition programmes.

The Senate had mandated its committee on Sports and Youth Development to investigate the circumstances leading to the abandonment of the facility and such other facilities abandoned anywhere in the country and report back to the senate within four weeks.

Earlier in the week, Senator Ekwunife had thrown members of her Anambra Central constituency into a joyous mood following her decision to equip the healthcare facility she erected in Neni community, Anaocha LGA.

Members of her staff, led by the Zonal Project manager, Hon Ify Chinwuko arrived at the newly erected facility which is located at St John’s Catholic Church, Neni, with trucks fully loaded with numerous equipments.

The Parish Priest Rev. Fr Peter Akaenyi who received the team along with other excited indigenes of the Neni community, said he was pleased to witness the installation of the equipment. “We earlier received a 30KVA Generator which was donated by her and now we are witnessing the delivery of other equipments. My parishioners and I are happy and strongly support her bid to return to the Senate,” the excited priest stated.

Speaking during the distribution exercise, an indigene of the community, Mr. Onyeka Nwokeke expressed satisfaction over the provision of the numerous medical and electrical equipments, thanking Senator Ekwunife for her love and care for her constituents.
