Apparently mocking the United States (US), Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council has thanked the Assembly of Experts for selecting Ali Khamenei’s successor despite “Trump’s threat to bomb it”, according to multiple Iranian news agencies.

Ali Larijani said Tehran’s “enemies” thought the country would “reach a deadlock” following the killing of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei but the Assembly ultimately proceeded with the selection of Mojtaba Khamenei, the former’s oldest son.

People&Politics, which has been closely monitoring developments in Iran and the US/Israel war with the Middle East nation, had reported, quoting credible global media outlets, that the younger Khameinei had been picked to succeed his late father, though the choice had not been made public yet.

The report last Tuesday was headlined ‘Ayatollah Khameinei’s Oldest Son Selected As Supreme Leader To Replace His Dad’.

The statement described the younger Khamenei as an “all-encompassing jurist, a young thinker and the most knowledgeable on political and social issues.”

The IRGC declared its “respect, devotion and obedience” to Khamenei, saying that its members are “ready for complete obedience and self-sacrifice in carrying out the divine commands of the Guardian Jurist.”

Oil Price Tops $100/Barrel

The price of crude oil rose above $100 (about N130,000) a barrel yesterday after major energy producers in the Middle East cut production.

This was in response to the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical chokepoints for oil and gas shipments, staying effectively closed due to the ongoing US-Israeli war with Iran.

Brent crude was 18% higher at $108.68 a barrel. The US oil, WTI, increased by almost 20% to $108 a barrel.

The Iranian military spokesman announced on Saturday that Iran’s “powerful retaliatory strikes” on the American bases across the region during the previous 24 hours had taken a heavy toll on the troops and commanders of the “aggressive” US army.

He noted that Iran’s attacks, carried out under Operation True Promise 4, also inflicted considerable damages on the US’ military infrastructure and resources in the region.

According to the Iranian spokesman, 21 American troops were killed and many others injured in the US 5th Fleet in the region, about 200 Americans were killed or wounded at Al Dhafra Air Base, and an oil tanker belonging to the US had been targeted in the northern part of the Persian Gulf.
