A leading socio-political group in Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja Original Inhabitants and Youths Empowerment Organisation (AOIYEO), has issued a strong warning to politicians, aspirants and candidates eyeing elective offices in the 2026/2027 election cycle, cautioning them against exploiting the youth and voters for selfish political gains.
In a statement titled ‘A Message to Politicians, Aspirants and Candidates Contesting for Political Positions in 2026/2027’, signed by its President, Isaac David, the organisation declared that it is closely monitoring political activities across the FCT and will not tolerate the use of youths as mere tools for electioneering.
According to AOIYEO, politicians who mobilise youths for campaign support only to abandon them after winning elections will be held accountable.
The group warned that the era of taking Abuja youths for granted is over, stressing that transparency, accountability and genuine commitment to community development must form the cornerstone of any political ambition.
“We warn against using our youths and voters as a ladder to power. If your intention is selfish, step down and do not lead our youths astray. True leadership comes from integrity and service to the people, not exploitation,” the group noted.
The organisation further urged political actors to prioritise unity and peace, cautioning against divisive rhetoric, incitement or actions capable of destabilising the FCT, emphasizing that leadership should be driven by a clear vision for collective progress rather than personal ambition.
Addressing young people directly, AOIYEO encouraged them to actively participate in local politics as a training ground to learn, grow and build leadership skills before aspiring to higher offices.
The group noted that such gradual political grooming would help reduce the risks of corruption and poor governance.
“We are looking for leaders with quality attitudes, strong character and a vision for unity, not division,” the statement said, adding that only leaders who embody integrity, transparency and selfless service would earn the organisation’s support.
The group also warned politicians with questionable past records that character flaws often surface under public scrutiny, insisting that pretence and false facades would not deceive Abuja youths.
It challenged such individuals to genuinely reform or forfeit the support of the people.
AOIYEO concluded by calling on youths and residents of the FCT to remain vigilant, informed and united in demanding accountability from those seeking public office, declaring that the youth will no longer be silent in the face of bad leadership.
The organisation summed up its message with a local proverb, reminding politicians that “hot water cannot be hidden in the mouth,” a clear signal that deceptive intentions will ultimately be exposed.
