Determined to improve healthcare services in Benue State Polytechnic, Ugbokolo, the management of the institution has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH), Makurdi.
Speaking during the ceremony at BSUTH, the Chief Medical Director (CMD), Dr. Stephen Hwande stressed the importance of the collaboration with the polytechnic and assured that the polytechnic community would not regret the collaboration.
Dr. Hwande, who revealed that the desire of the Teaching Hospital’s management was to make it second to none, appreciated Benue State Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia for ensuring the steady growth of the hospital.
The CMD, who informed that the teaching hospital has already gone into collaboration with Tarka, Guma and Gwer Local Government Councils, noted that the polytechnic was the fourth even as more Local Government Councils and organisations were willing to collaborate with the hospital.
As the CMD disclosed that the hospital has acquired new equipment for better diagnosis and treatment of various diseases, he also informed that the Governor had signed a contract of N13 billion to enable the hospital record those achievements for the benefit of the Benue people.
He noted that a team from the teaching hospital would visit the polytechnic in the next few days for better assessment of things with a view to take proper action, insisting that by April this year, things would take definite shape.
In his response, Rector, Benue State Polytechnic, Ugbokolo, Arc. Dr. Henry Ojobo, who was represented by the Deputy Rector, Administration, Engr. (Dr.) Emmanuel Barki, appreciated the State Governor for his firm support to the state and commended the CMD for his magnanimity even with the enormous challenges before him.
The Rector disclosed that the polytechnic’s clinic had gone moribund, but that the school’s management revived it for the benefit of the polytechnic community.
He informed that the management of the polytechnic would not disappoint the hospital and sued for the co-operation of the staff and students both for its success and optimal benefits of the polytechnic community.
During the signing of the MoU, Engr. Barki and Mrs Helen Ejiga signed on behalf of the polytechnic while Dr. Hwande and Dr. Michael Aba signed on behalf of BSUTH.
