Terror rocked Oyo State as bandits, Tuesday night, attacked the National Park Service (NPS) office in Oloka, Orire Local Government Area (LGA) of the State, with five personnel feared dead and others critically injured.
The attack reportedly occurred about 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 6.
Preliminary reports indicated that, at least, five personnel of the NPS were killed during the assault.
An eyewitness, a resident of the LGA, who spoke with journalists on condition of anonymity, said armed men stormed the facility and attacked officers on duty, confirming that four personnel were killed while another sustained serious injuries and was currently receiving treatment.
Confirming the incident, Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Ayanlade Olayinka, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), said the attack was carried out by yet-to-be-identified armed men against personnel of the NPS.
“Yes, there was an attack by yet-to-be-identified men against the men of the National Park.
“The Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Police Command, and other service chiefs are currently on their way to the location.
“Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Femi Haruna, has deployed tactical teams, Mobile Police Force officers, and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit to the affected area to prevent further breakdown of law and order,” he said.
Olayinka added that the deployment was aimed at restoring calm, securing the area, and ensuring the safety of lives and property.
