From September 1 this year, the cost of acquiring the Nigerian passport will rise -like most items in the nation’s commercial ecosystem in the last couple of years.

It is now either N200,000 or N100,000 depending on the document’s number of pages and validity period.

The development followed Federal Government’s upward review of fees for the vital document.

Spokesman of Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Akinsola S. Akinlabi, disclosed the hike in cost in a statement today, August 28.

Akinlabi stated that the hike was to ensure the quality and integrity of the Nigerian standard passport.

He stated: “The review, which only affects passport application fees made in Nigeria, now sets new fee thresholds for a 32-page passport with 5-year validity at N100,000 and a 64-page passport with 10-year validity at N200,000.

“Meanwhile, Nigerian passport application fees made by Nigerians in the diaspora remain unchanged at $150 for a 32-page passport with 5-year validity and $230 for a 64-page passport with 10-year validity.”

Akinlabi reiterated NIS’ commitment to balancing quality service delivery with the need to ensure passport services accessibility to all Nigerians.
