Brazilian defender David Luiz will continue his professional career until June 2028 with Pafos FC in Cyprus, the club confirmed in an official statement on social media.
Rather than hang up his boots, he returns to European football with a team currently competing in the UEFA Champions League qualifiers, aiming for a spot in the tournament’s group stage.
At 38 years old, the veteran center-back heads back to Europe after spending last season with Fortaleza in Brazil, following a four-year stint at Flamengo after leaving Arsenal.
“From Brazil to Europe, from Champions League glory to the Copa Libertadores: now writing a new chapter in Cyprus. A historic day for our club. A new era begins,” Pafos wrote on X.
The team is coached by Spanish manager Juan Carlos Carcedo.
Pafos will be the eighth club of David Luiz’s career.
He came through the youth ranks at São Paulo and went on to play for Vitória, Benfica, Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain, Arsenal, Flamengo, and Fortaleza.
