To realize government’s No More Zero Dose of Polio Immunization programme for children under five, a media group, Journalists Initiative on Polio Immunization (JAP), in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO) and Kaduna State Primary Healthcare Board, conducted a polio campaign.
The exercise took place at Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) spots where some children who had never received the vaccines before, were immunized.
The team was at the popular Mando Roundabout where FRSC officials carried out routine operation.
The team met with several travelers coming into Kaduna for normal daily activities, with many submitting their children to be immunized.
These were contained in a statement issued in Kaduna by JAP today.
According to the statement, a commuter, Hajiya Habiba Baba Tanko from Udawa village, Birnin Gwari Local Government of the state, who was carrying a two-year-old baby, willingly agreed for the baby to be immunized.
She told the team that since she gave birth to the baby, she had not administered vaccines on the child, but voluntarily did so after receiving convincing enlightenment on the importance of polio vaccination.
An appreciative Hajiya Tanko applauded the team for the initiative and advised them not to relent as there are many regular travelers who easily miss the house-to-house vaccination exercise.
Another parent, also a traveler, identified as Comrade A. Hamza, expressed satisfaction with the exercise and the manner in which the combined team conducted themselves.
Hamza condemned the attitude of some parents who promote certain myths against polio vaccines and appealed to them to make their children available for vaccination.
