Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has appreciated President Bola Tinubu for his visit, yesterday, to the crises-strewn state following the killings at Yelwata town in Guma Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.
Governor Alia also expressed strong belief on the President’s assurance to work with the State Government to fashion out a framework to usher lasting peace in the North-Central State.
A statement by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary (CPS), Tersoo Kula, said the Governor also thumbed up the President’s directives to security agencies to ensure the criminals who perpetrated the Yelwata and similar gruesome murders were arrested and brought to face the full wrath of the law.
Kula stated: “We deeply appreciate your commitment to addressing the security challenges we face, particularly your directive to the Chief of Defence Staff and the Inspector General of Police.
“Your decisive action to neutralize the threats posed by armed herders reassures us that our safety and the return of our farmers to their lands are priorities for your administration.”
According to the statement, the President’s presence and support to the state at this challenging time rekindled the hope and strength of people of the state.
The governor, the spokesman disclosed, equally appreciated his counterparts, especially the Progressive Governors’ Forum led by Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma, for standing in solidarity with him and the state, stating that their collective efforts demonstrated a united front against violence, and a shared commitment to the well-being of communities across the country.
The statement noted that people of the State were consoled through the leadership and compassion shown by the President, State Governors and other well meaning Nigerians, during this trying moment.
The Governor assured the Benue people that he would continue to work together with all critical stakeholders as his government was determined to work towards rebuilding and restoring peace in the State, the statement emphasized.
