Two possible fatalities were averted in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) following an auto crash.
Luck smiled on two male occupants of a Toyota Carina 2 vehicle as they sustained serious injuries after the rear tyre of the vehicle they were in, burst while in motion, according to a press statement by FCT Emergency Management Department (FEMD).
The statement was signed by the department’s Head of Public Affairs, Nkechi Isa, and made available to People&Politics .
According to Isa, after the tyre burst, the driver of the vehicle,which was traveling on the Kubwa-Suleja highway, reportedly lost control, veered off the road with both occupants ending up in a culvert by Katampe Hill,near the highway.
The statement added: “The FCT Emergency Management Department was notified of the incident at about 6.41pm on the 112 emergency toll-free number.
“The Search and Rescue Team, on arrival at the incident scene, promptly evacuated both occupants to the Trauma Center of the National Hospital Abuja. The victims are said to be responding to treatment.
“Meanwhile, the Ag. Director General of FEMD, Engr Abdulrahman Mohammed, has appealed to residents to ensure that their vehicles are in motorable condition particularly with the onset of the rainy season.
“Engr Abdulrahman also cautioned against over speeding and reckless driving. He emphasized the need to always use 112 emergency toll-free number.”
