Buhari’s Ally, Malami, Joins Anti-Tinubu Camp

The camp of those who want to see the back of President Bola Tinubu off the nation’s top seat in 2027, increased by one: Abubakar Malami, former President Muhammadu Buhari’s Justice Minister/Attorney General of the Federation (AGF).

Malami, who was Minister/AGF for eight years (2015-23), is unhappy that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders endorsed President Tinubu for a second term amid biting hardship, hunger and increasing insecurity buffeting the land.

He rebuked them for such attitude.

Malami took the position during a meeting of the National Political Consultative Group (North), held in Abuja, weekend.

The meeting formed part of ongoing bid by opposition leaders to craft a coalition to oust Tinubu in 2027.

Political heavyweights were at the meeting. They included former Vice-President (VP) Atiku Abubakar; Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate in the 2023 poll, Mr Peter Obi; former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, and others.

Delivering the keynote address, Malami took exception to APC’s recent focus on securing President Tinubu’s re-election, chiding the party for embarking on misplaced priorities, against the backdrop of rising insecurity, inflation and poverty in Northern Nigeria.

He said: “Just a few days ago, the ruling party held its national summit and instead of addressing the serious issues of insecurity, economic hardship and rising poverty, it chose to focus on politics, endorsing President Bola Tinubu as sole candidate for the 2027 election that is still two years away.”

The former Attorney General rallied political stakeholders to unite to “reclaim” the country for good governance and economic stability.

Malami recently took sides with members of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) faction (Buhari-linked group) of the APC with several of its members openly criticizing the Tinubu presidency over the country’s situation.
