The Supreme Court has declared Senator Samuel Anyanwu, as the authentic National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The declaration is coming from the nation’s Apex Court on Friday, 21 March 2025.
The apex court set aside the judgement of the Court of Appeal in Enugu, which had recognised Sunday Udey-Okoye as secretary of the party at the expense of Anyanwu.
Abyanwu, a close ally of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, took the dispute on appeal to the Supreme Court.
In its decision, the Supreme Court agreed with Anyanwu’s argument that both the Court of Appeal and the trial court in Enugu lacked the juridictional vires to hear the case, as it involved the internal affairs of the PDP.
Anyanwu had left the position of national secretary, to contest for Imo governorship election. The South-East caucus of the party had, in his absence, nominated Ude-Okoye as his replacement as national secretary.
He lost the election to Governor Hope Uzodinma.
He had returned to his position in the party, an action that had since become a subject of litigation.
