The Eastern Union, Friday, said the planned nationwide protests were justified because of the pains the administration of President Bola Tinubu had inflicted on Nigerians.
The body, comprising Nigerians across all divides championing good governance, however, cautioned against protesters falling prey to the antics of sponsored hoodlums.
EU’s national president, Hon Charles Anike, stated this while addressing newsmen in Abuja. He advised President Bola Tinubu to restore Nigerians to how they were before the removal of petroleum products subsidies.
According to him, “The only point for negotiation for suspension of this well-planned, well-arranged and well-timed protests will be the immediate reversal of petrol pump prices to how they were before May 29, 2023.
“Tinubu should also immediately restore the value of naira to what it was before May 29, 2023.
“Another point for negotiation will be the immediate removal of the INEC chairman and all his cronies in the commission. We cannot afford to continue to tolerate evil in our midst and expect to make progress. Also steps towards restructuring the country and review of the structure and composition of the over-paid, over-fed and overrated National Assembly members should be taken. These should be the terms for negotiation before the protests can be suspended.”
He said, otherwise, all well-meaning Nigerians should join the protests to “take back our country from the hands of the political cabal”.
Quoting him, “We are all going to join the protests, not only to see the end of bad governance but also to take back our country like our Kenyan counterparts did. But the protesters must be cautious to resist and be weary of sponsored hoodlums that will be employed to infiltrate the protesters.”
