Amid Challenges, Benue Exco Passes Confidence Vote on Alia

Benue State Executive Council has unanimously passed a vote of confidence on the State Governor Hyacinth Alia.

The council took the position, declaring their support for the governor during Thursday’s session, held at the Exco Hall of Government House, Makurdi,capital of the North-Central state.

A statement by the Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the Governor, Tersoo Kula, revealed that the motion for the vote of confidence was proposed by the Deputy Governor, Barrister Sam Ode.

The Deputy Governor, according to the statement, pointed out the importance of the resolution amid growing political and social challenges, notably the escalating security issues in the state.

According to the governor’s spokesman, the Deputy Governor commended Gov. Alia for his adept handling of the situation, reiterating his efforts in reconnecting Benue with the central government.

Barrister Ode, the statement added , mentioned the enhanced cooperation from security agencies in focusing on the security perils bedeviling the state.

He bemoaned the tragic loss of two gallant soldiers of the Nigerian Army, who were murdered by armed herders while on duty protecting civilians in Turan, Kwande Local Government Area of the state.

Seconding the motion, Commissioner for Education and Knowledge Management, Rev. (Dr.) Frederick Ikyaan, who reiterated the opinions of fellow Commissioners and Special Advisers, appreciated the governor’s steadfast leadership despite the many challenges.

The Chief of Staff to the Governor, Paul Biam, who spoke on behalf of the Principal Officers at the Exco, restated the usefulness of recognizing the governor’s contributions, stating that to whom honour is due, honour should be given.

Governor Alia, while reacting to the vote of confidence, expressed gratitude to the members of the Exco, and appreciated them for the show of faith in him and his administration.

While assuring that the unanimous support would spur him to go all out for the betterment of the state, the governor appealed to his cabinet members and the entire people of the State to sustain the faith, belief and backing for his government.

The vote of confidence signified a unified viewpoint within the State government, building up the commitment to focus on the pressing challenges confronting the state and to foster a safe and prosperous atmosphere for the citizenry.
